Details
Prairie Grasslands give way to the historic South Dakota Black Hills as we make our way north from the Colorado Plains and thru the Sand Hills of Nebraska.
Day 1
We will start out on gravel county roads thru the Pawnee Grassland and a mix of Dirt and paved back roads until we pick up the Dakota Adventure Loop (DakAl) near the ranching town of Edgemont. We will plan to camp the first night.
Day 2 From there we will be on dirt 2 track until Custer when we will ride some of the best paved roads in America! Pig Tail Highway and Needles Highway (we may ride these day 3 depending on progress) Plan to hotel at the fun and funky Rocket Motel in Custer. I spoke with them today and all single rooms are booked but double rooms and the family suite’s are still plentiful.
Day 3
depending on where we left off day 2 we will make our way north to Hill City and Sturgis on some amazing dirt roads, completing the “middle” loop of the DakAl. Plan to camp tonight
Day 4
We will complete the DakAl and begin riding home. If we have time and desire a short detour to Allegiance, NE to see “Car Henge” is a fun side trip.
The dirt roads on this trip are generally in pretty good shape with sections of more technical riding. Intermediate riding skills are required. All bike sizes can attend. Knobby tires with good tread are required.
All riders will be required to complete liability waivers for both Whisky Throttle Adventures and the Dakota Adventure Loop. permits are issued by The SD Trails Development Corporation and The USFS also requires every rider to have a Black Hills National Forest Trail Permit.
Cost for this trip is $250. This includes all required permits, navigation, and Whisky Throttle t shirt. Hotels/camping, fuel and food is not included.
