SUMMARY:Colorado Backcountry Discovery Route
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE READ THE WHOLE POSTING BEFORE SIGNING UP AND ASKING QUESTIONS IN THE COMMENTS. \nBack by popular demand (thanks\, Marc) we will be running the Coloardo BDR this Sept. Join us for an adventurous week enjoying the most beautiful scenery the Centennial state has to offer. \nPlan will be to meet up at Wooly Mammoth Park and Ride at 8:00am on Saturday the 9th and ride to Dolores and camp at ‘House Creek Campground’ right at the start of the dirt section. We will take 2 days in the San Juan range and enjoy some extra trails before heading north on the route. At the end I may decide to hit the first 3 sections of the Wyoming BDR since I did not get to see those last year. \nFrom RideBDR.com https://ridebdr.com/cobdr/ \nIf getting high is your thing\, Colorado offers some of the tallest mountains passable by motorcycle in the US. With several passes over 12\,000 feet\, there is no shortage of views on this route\, just shortness of breath while taking in the sights in the thin air of Ophir\, Corkscrew\, Hurricane\, California\, Cinnamon\, Cumberland\, Cottonwood\, Weston and Hagerman passes. \nBeginning in the four corners location where\, CO\, AZ\, NM and UT intersect\, this 682-mile route winds its way north through the Rocky Mountains to the Wyoming border. The terrain includes dirt roads with rocks\, sand and even a few water crossings to keep it exciting. \nBest time of year: July through September. Most of the route can be done in late June. Depending on snowpack you might not make it through some high passes until sometime in July. \nLike all BDR Routes\, these ARE NOT BEGINNER RIDES as they are best suited for full size ADV bikes carrying a weeks worth of provisions. If you are an intermediate rider a smaller bike might suit you best. \nAll bikes must be plated and in good working order with fresh\, knobby tires\, oil changed and checked\, chains in good condition and all lights working. Please bring a tool kit specific to your bike and spare front and rear tubes (even if you are tubeless- No exceptions)\, as well as extra RocStraps or other tie downs to hold on anything that yard sales! \nPack light\, These bikes are heavy enough! We will plan to camp about 50-70% of the time and hotel every few nights as the opportunity and need arises. We will get meals and supplies in towns as we go thru/camp nearby. \nKickstands up at 9:00am if camping and 8:00am from Hotels! \nTo cover group operating expense and ensure those who sign up actually attend\, all multi day rides have a $100 sign up cost. This is a “self guided” adventure and all riders should have gps and/or maps. \nPlease call with any questions 970-308-0374 \nAdam Animal
