Arizona BDR

May 4 @ 8:00 am - May 12 @ 5:00 pm MDT

$100.00

Come join us for a fantastic week of riding desert, cactus, mountains and the wild west. I have not yet had the opportunity to ride the AZBDR and am really looking forward to checking that one off.

FROM RIDEBDR.COM:

Blessed with a surprising number of mountain ranges, the Arizona BDR is more green and mountainous than many people expect. Starting on the US/Mexico border, the 750- mile route stays east of Tucson and Phoenix and explores the historic Empire Ranch, Sierra Ancha Cliff Dwellings, Mogollon Rim, Saguaro Cactus Forests, Navajo Nation, wild horses, Vermillion Cliffs and options to see the Grand Canyon from vantage points most people never see.

Best time of year: April through June and Late September/October. July and August have very high temperatures and should be avoided. August is also monsoon season and is not a good time to ride the route.

Additional Route Information

IMPORTANT: . You MUST obtain an Arizona State Land Trust Recreational Permit. Visit AZ Recreation Permit.

Another permit is needed for riding through Navajo Nation (Section 8).  You MUST obtain a pass to ride and camp in Navajo Nation.

I have not yet had the opportunity to ride the AZBDR and am ready to check it off the list. I think this spring is the perfect time to do that.

Rough plan right now will be to leave Denver on Sat, May 4th (may the 4th be with you) and return Sunday the 12th or sooner if we finish early. Right now I’m looking at taking my XR650R to better handle the sand although this is a BDR route and should be passable on any Adv bike with a decent rider. If I do take my XR I’ll drive down to a mid point (probably Flagstaff or a friends house in Show Low) and riding to the start from there. Maybe we can organize a car pool. I can haul 4-5 bikes and 1-2 passengers.

No Itinerary is set after we start the ride. We will just take each day as it comes and deal with challenges as they present themselves. Please plan to camp every night as no hotel plans are being made. We will likely get a few hotels as the opportunities arise.

Prior rides with this group are required to attend. This is NOT a beginner ride.

Please make sure your bike is in good mechanical condition with good or new knobby tires.

All riders are required to have GPS or a phone app and be able to navigate themselves should someone get separated. GPS tracks can be downloaded for free from https://ridebdr.com/download-tracks
